Wild night of Overtime playoff action Monday

Four Stanley Cup Playoff games were decided in overtime Monday, something that hadn’t happened since April 10, 1985, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

The Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators, Nashville Predators and Anaheim Ducks all won in overtime!

I don’t know a hockey fan that doesn’t feel the extra thrill of winning a playoff overtime or the deep disappointment of losing one. Everyone knows the extreme importance of playoff overtime.

Eleven of 24 postseason games have gone to overtime in the first round, including all three games between Toronto and Washington and two between Ottawa and Boston. All eight first-round series have included at least one OT finish.

Teams that many figured were extreme underdogs at the start of these playoffs of taken full advantage of the extra session and now have sizable advantages over the competition. I don’t believe anybody says there saw potential sweep for Nashville or St. Louis.

Toronto, was supposed to be An easier time for the Presidents Trophy winning Washington Capitals this postseason based on inexperience. However, As you know, the Young Maple Leafs Have taken two out of the three overtimes in that series.

That’s the magic of playoff overtime!

Anything can happen… And this is just the beginning!

One thing that is certain: Overtime heroes become household names. Congratulations to: Tyler Bozak, Kevin Fiala,  Cory Perry and Bobby Ryan. Enjoy that extra spot light.
