Wednesday NHL Roundup!

The coaching carousel continues as the Las Vegas Golden knights replaced Gerard Gallant with Peter DeBoer today. I’ve had harsh words for a few coaches this year so I’m gonna say it – anyone needing a better coach should probably fire their current coach just to sign Gallant. He spun straw into gold in Vegas with an expansion roster. Florida still rues the day they called him a cab to unceremoniously fire him. I think Vegas will have that same feeling in a month or two. Several ironies sprout out of this – Peter DeBoer was fired earlier this season by the much worse Sharks. DeBoer and Gallant also have huge beef with each other dating back to last year’s playoffs. Gallant is also supposed to be the Coach Representative of the Pacific Division in the All Star game. The Golden Knights are 3 points out of first place in their division, 4 points out of second in the conference. I really thought Gallant was gonna be the coach there for a decade plus like Barry Trotz in Nashville. Nashville recently axed their coach. I think Gallant is a better option for coach than just about everyone that got hired or fired recently. Someone’s going to profit from this and it won’t be Vegas. The House loses this one

In Good News Bad News, Sidney Crosby returned to action! I’m happy to see Crosby back on the ice. ON the flipside, significant injuries to the Toronto Maple Leafs Morgan Rielly and Philadelphia Flyers goalie Carter Hart. Can you tell I have all of these guys in one pool or another? That’s kinda how my injury report goes. A lot of Colorado forwards (Landeskog, Rantanen, Burakovsky, Donskoi, Kadri) have missed time, makes Nathan MacKinnon’s place behind Connor McDavid on the Hart Ballot look more solid.   Anyone else have someone who hit the IR and broke your heart? Vladimir Tarasenko, we hardly knew ye – though the Blues have been great without him and will be absolute murderers when their best offensive player returns.

The Zach Kassian/Matt Tkachuk beef has rekindled the ugliest part of the Battle of Alberta, and I gotta say I love it. The lucky thing is I hate both players Kassian’s got a long history of incidents, I’ve never forgiven him for cutting Dave Bolland’s ankle with his skate. Tkachuk has been playing over the edge since he got into the league. I love the drama, but I don’t want to hear from either of these psychos years later when they’ve got the CTELet’s not have one of those horrible occurrences that accidentally gets the NHL the mainstream press it covets. . I take some solace in the idea somewhere Drew Doughty is laughing. I like regional beefs but this one seems a bit ugly.

Congratulations to Pekka Rinne on being the first goalie to score a goal in 7 years, and only the 12th Goalie ever.
