Acquiring 24-year-old winger Alex DeBrincat is a statement addition for the Ottawa Senators.
Ottawa dealt the 7th overall and 39th overall selections in the 2022 NHL Draft, in addition to a third-round pick in next year’s draft for the proven goal-scorer Thursday, and the deal immediately sets the tone for a new era for the organization.
DeBrincat is coming off a career-high 78 points and last season was the second time he found the back of the net 41 times.
His 28 power-play points last year also tied a personal best, and he bulks up an already dynamic young core of forwards in Ottawa.
The Sens still have to sort out the goaltending situation, and the blueline corps also needs a touchup, but they’re going to score.
