Sean Couturier helps extend Philly’s season

Sean Couturier scored a tiebreaking goal with 1:15 left in the third period, and the Philadelphia Flyers avoided elimination with a 4-2 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference First Round at PPG Paints Arena on Friday.

Michal Neuvirth also received the nod in this critical contest in Pittsburgh and stopped 30 of 32 shots to pick up the win. Neuvirth supplanted Brian Elliott for this elimination game and he helped his heavy underdog Philly side to a road victory to force a Game 6 at home in the City of Brotherly Love. He had a key save at point-blank range late in the third period against Sidney Crosby.

The Flyers Penalty-kill played a large role in this victory, the Pittsburgh Penguins have the best power-play in the game. Tonight, the Pens’ went 0 for 5.  Valtteri Filppula tied it 2-2 with a shorthanded goal at 18:15 of the second period. After Murray failed to hold a shot by Jori Lehtera, Filppula beat Kris Letang to the puck and scored through Murray’s five-hole.

There has been no confirmation officially, since the game just ended, but it’s obviously hard to believe Neuvirth wouldn’t be back between the pipes for Game 6 on Sunday at 3:00 pm ET on NBC.

Can these Flyers complete the comeback?
