The New York Rangers are reportedly at the top of Artemi Panarin’s list when it comes to his next playing destination.
Panarin is entering the final year of his contract and it sounds like there’s a very real possibility that he’ll be leaving Columbus in the near future. The Rangers are in the middle of a rebuild, so it’s unlikely that they’d give up young assets in a trade for the Russian forward, but they could make a serious push for his services once he becomes an unrestricted free agent. As important as Panarin is to the Jackets’ success, they can’t afford to lose him for nothing. If he’s unwilling to sign an extension, they may have to move him before the 2019 trade deadline. Panarin is one of the most skilled forwards in the NHL.
The HockeyFanLand Insight:
Panarin indeed his one of the most skilled playmakers in the game today. If a trade is not made by summer 2019, Panarin will be a popular guy in free agency for sure.
According to the Athletic’s Aaron Portzline, multiple sources around the NHL believe that the 26-year-old will want to sign with the New York Rangers in July 2019. His acquisition would provide a serious boost to the Rangers’ rebuilding plan, one that was put into motion in February at the league’s trade deadline. Adding a player like this to the Rangers mix would certainly fast-track a well put together rebuild. That already features young studs: Lias Andersson, Filip Chytil, Vitali Kravtsov, Brady Skjei, Pavel Buchnevich and Mika Zibanejad.
