The NHL has named Patrik Laine as the first star of the week
Patrik Laine had five goals, including a hattrick, in three games. His hat trick was his fourth as a teenager, making him just the third player in NHL history to accumulate at least four hat tricks before their 20th birthday. The other two are Jimmy Carson and Dale Hawerchuk.
Laine and Ovechkin sit at 40 goals and each player has 14 games left in the regular season, including Monday’s second and final meeting between the two clubs.
Laine: “I’m excited to play hockey. Washington, they’ve always been my favorite team when I was growing up. It’s always been my dream to play against them and just overall to be here at the rink and now we’re playing here. It’s pretty cool.”

On the weekend, when one of his numerous scrums had thinned out, Laine was asked about the importance of chasing the Rocket Richard Trophy.
“It’s always been one of my dreams to win it,” said Laine. “It’s something that every goal-scorer dreams about. There are still 15 games to go. There are a lot of things that can happen, but (along) with our team goals, it’s a good motivation for me.”
When Laine was drafted second overall, in 2016, and everyone in hockey was comparing him to Alex Ovechkin… it was hard to imagine anyone even having the same scoring ability. From day one of his NHL career, Laine has shown us all he does have the skills to back up the claims of being the next Ovechkin. as hockey fans I know we will have our eyes glued to the remainder of this scoring race.
