Ovechkin: If I wasn’t a Capital, I’d be a Canadien

As Alex Ovechkin got ready for an interview with ESPN.com Thursday morning at Bell Centre, he observed just how much he gets excited to play in this rink.

“I love playing here,” Ovechkin said.

Later, during the interview, I asked — hypothetically speaking, just for fun, if he ever had to play for another team, would it be the Montreal Canadiens?

“Yeah, probably, if I would have a choice,” Ovechkin said. “The culture, the atmosphere, the city . . . If I wasn’t in Washington? Yes, here.”

This is really scary news, if you’re a Montréal Canadiens fan. The best sniper in the world admits he’s at home in your arena. I imagine these two teams will have to face off at some point this spring to determine who will represent the East in the Stanley Cup Final. if it comes to this, because of the statements above I would have to award a slight edge to Washington.

This would be an interesting series, as it would feature the surefire league MVP: Carey Price. Versus the hockey most dominant goalscorer Alex Ovechkin.
