Matt Beleskey developing into NHL goal-scorer

Tyler Seguin, Rick Nash, Steven Stamkos, Vladimir Tarasenko, Evgeni Malkin, Phil Kessel, Joe Pavelski, Alex Ovechkin, Corey Perry and Matt Beleskey. Those are your top 10 NHL goal-scoring leaders. One name doesn’t quite fit with the others, right?

Beleskey scored his 14th goal of the season Wednesday night in Anaheim’s 2-1 win over the visiting Edmonton Oilers. His previous career high was 11 goals back in 2009-2010, his first NHL season. Belesky scored nine goals last year, but he’s on pace for 38 goals this season.

The 26-year-old has played on all four forward lines this season, although over the past month mostly in a top-six role. With Corey Perry out four weeks with a knee injury, the NHL-leading Ducks need Beleskey’s surprising goal-scoring binge to continue.

The good news for fantasy hockey owners is that Beleskey Is just 35% owned in Yahoo! fantasy leagues. So if your team is lacking in the offense category, Beleskey would be considered the low risk high reward type of option everybody dreams of. The downside is that despite this player having 14 goals, he has just two assists. In other words, in leagues where goals count higher this is a more sought-after asset.
