Lightning’s Steven Stamkos joins 400-goal club

Steven Stamkos continues to make his mark on the record books more than a decade into his career.

The Lightning captain, who has been the face of the organization since being drafted first overall in 2008, scored the 400th goal of his career during Saturday’s loss to the Winnipeg Jets.

It took Steven Stamkos 763 regular-season NHL games to score 400 goals.

That’s the second least total of games amongst active NHL players. Alexander Ovechkin took 634 games to reach that milestone. Of retired players to score 400, Wayne Gretzky was the fastest at 436 games, followed by Mike Bossy (506), Mario Lemieux (508), Brett Hull (520) and Jari Kurri (608).

For Lighting fans, Stamkos holds the distinction of being the only player in franchise history to score all 400 goals with Tampa Bay
