Lightning sign Brayden Point to 3-year deal

Brayden Point has signed a 3-year bridge deal with the Tampa Lightning. Reports suggest, the team came up more than a million per year to get the deal done, and yet, I’m still surprised at how cheap the deal is. The deal has an average annual value of $6.75 million. Point exploded for 41 goals and 92 points in 79 games last season.

This is another steal. The Lightning have been able to convince some of the most skilled players the world to sign for less. Climate and state tax play a large role. It also helps that these Tampa Lightning are considered the best team in hockey right now. It be a huge disappointment if the team does not win the Stanley Cup with this core

Point’s extension leaves six restricted free agents still in need of new deals for this season, a group that includes Mikko Rantanen of the Colorado Avalanche, Matthew Tkachuk of the Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets forwards Kyle Connor and Patrik Laine.
