Joel Kiviranta scored three goals in Friday’s 5-4 overtime Game 7 win over the Colorado Avalanche.
What a performance from Joel Kiviranta who only dressed in today’s game after Andrew Cogliano was ruled out due to injury. His first of the night came off a tip from a John Klingberg shot. Then late in the third period, Vladislav Namestnikov looked like he won the game for the Avalanche but Kiviranta and the Stars responded just 10 seconds later to force overtime. In the extra frame, Andrej Sekera found himself behind Colorado’s net with the puck, finding Kiviranta in the high slot for the one-timer and the win. To put this performance by Kiviranta into perspective, the 24-year-old Finn came into the game with only one career NHL goal. You’d be hard pressed to find a couple of bigger goals than his last two in this contest. Dallas avoids the 3-1 series collapse and advance to the Western Conference Final where they will meet either the Vancouver Canucks or the Vegas Golden Knights.
Miro Heiskanen had a couple of assists in Friday’s 5-4 overtime Game 7 win over the Colorado Avalanche
Heiskanen got both his primary assists after Alexander Radulov and Joel Kiviranta redirected a couple of his point shots for goals. Heiskanen has been on absolute fire since the restart. The 21-year-old Finn has five goals and 21 points in 16 games, with 13 of those coming in Dallas’ last eight games. As the Stars head to the Western Conference Final, Heiskanen is their odds-on favorite to take home the Conn Smythe Trophy.
