Joe Thornton says Sharks GM ‘needs to shut his mouth’

Anybody, who follows the NHL on a regular basis knows that the San Jose Sharks are renowned for regular-season success, but for whatever reason can’t get it done come playoff time. A lot of speculation has been made that lack of success is because the core group doesn’t have what it takes….

This season is a little bit different  case for San Jose: The organization has not enjoyed their typical regular-season success. A quick look at the current standings would show you, they are three points out of a wildcard spot. With a record of: 34-26-8. So, you’re reading thiis thinking: Maybe they’ll slip into the playoffs under the radar this season. If you were thinking that, like I was. We were so wrong.

Today, Joe Thornton sent a message to the whole hockey world. Letting us all know just how bad things really are in San Jose when he said his general manager ‘needs to shut his mouth’.

It all started when Wilson commented on his decision to strip Thornton of his captaincy:

Doug Wilson: “The pressure and stress, I felt, was getting to Joe. And I sat him down and said we need other players to step up and share this. He got it. He didn’t like it, but he got it and he understood it.”

Joe Thornton: “I think Doug just needs to shut his mouth. All I’ve got to say is, I’ve been here every day working hard. I haven’t taken a sabbatical. He just needs to stop lying, shut his mouth.”

Doug Wilson: “If he’s got an issue, he knows exactly where I am, and I’ll be glad to talk to him about it. There’s zero issue here. I was asked a question at a season ticket holder function, and my response was to do my job and be accountable to our season ticket holders and tell the truth. It’s nothing I haven’t said before.”

It is safe to say, that no matter what happens in San Jose this season; some changes will be made in a leadership core of the team this summer. Frankly, if you ask me, it’s about time…
