Evan Bouchard opened the scoring Thursday, with his first ever NHL goal.
In doing so, Bouchard became the youngest Oiler defenseman at 19 years and five days, to score an NHL goal, besting Paul Coffey, who played in his first NHL game at 19 years and four months. The Oilers are extremely high on Bouchard who looks like the real deal. He was drafted 10th overall in 2018 and could stick the whole season with Edmonton as he has offensive skills from the blueline that are rare, especially with the Oilers of late.
“It feels good to beat the Stanley Cup champs,” Bouchard said. “I thought it was all around a good game. It was pretty special to go from watching [Washington] in the Stanley Cup Final last year, to getting to play against them. The goal was pretty special. I didn’t actually see it go in. I just saw the guys celebrating.”
