Leon Draisaitl and Anton Slepyshev scored breakaway goals, Connor McDavid added an empty net marker, and Cam Talbot made 27 saves, giving the Oilers a 4-2 series win Over the San Jose Sharks
As someone who lives for Oilers hockey it’s hard to accurately describe how I am feeling right now… I’m just so damn proud of this team! Taking down the former Western Conference Champions, In franchise’s first Playoff appearance in more than a decade. What an epic feeling it is! To say it’s a big moment is a gross understatement. Even if you not a fan of the Edmonton Oilers you understand how big this is…
Despite the perceived lack of experience this team proved they can play through anything. Rewarding loyal fans with this epic victory.
I can’t believe Cam Talbot is not a Vezina finalist! What more must a guy do?
He set the single-season franchise record for goaltending wins… An as not looked back. Cam carried that momentum with him Into these playoffs..
In his first playoff series as a starting goaltender, Talbot was excellent with the exception of Game 4 when he allowed five goals on 24 shots and was pulled. Talbot had shutouts in Game 2 and Game 3 and rebounded with a strong performance in Game 5, making 27 saves in a 4-3 overtime win, which gave Edmonton a 3-2 series lead. Talbot was at his best in Game 5 when the Oilers trailed 3-1, making a number of excellent saves to keep the Oilers in the game before eventually winning.
“It takes work, it takes lessons, it takes repetition in practice, it takes pain,” Oilers coach Todd McLellan said. “It doesn’t come easy, and for our team, we’re watching them grow up right in front of us, which is a great thing. We’ve been through a push into the playoffs. We’re through a round now. We learned how intense it is to close out a game”.
I know a lot of Edmonton was just like me, satisfied with having my boys back in the playoffs! Now that we won a playoff round who know what’s going to happen…. The city of Edmonton is where the party is happening for sure!
Let’s Go Oilers!
