Connor McDavid scored his first career NHL hat trick Saturday, leading the Edmonton Oilers to victory over the Dallas Stars by a final score of 5-2. It had been well documented that the young superstar was having trouble finding the back of the net in recent games. In fact, McDavid went 10 games without a goal before he scored one in each period Saturday night.
Many people across the industry were suggesting the kid should be more greedy and shoot the puck more. Personally, I don’t think this kid needs any advice on how to play hockey… However, when he does shoot, you see the results.
McDavid certainly enjoys playing the Dallas Stars. Along with recording his first career NHL hat trick against them, McDavid also scored his first NHL goal against the Stars last season.
Matt Hendricks and Drake Caggiula, each playing his first NHL game this season, helped Edmonton take a 2-0 lead with assists on Tyler Pitlick’s goal at 13:13 of the first period. Caggiula made his NHL debut.
Significantly, McDavid’s historic night helped the Edmonton Oilers snap a five-game losing streak.
