Claude Giroux earned his first career hat trick in the regular season and the Philadelphia Flyers clinched a playoff berth in their final regular-season game with a 5-0 victory over the New York Rangers on Saturday. It’s hard to believe that today’s hat trick was his first in the regular-season for Giroux in 738 games

Giroux’s big afternoon got him a few milestones  He will now join Bobby Clarke (3), Mark Recchi (2), Rick MacLeish, Bill Barber & Eric Lindros as the only players to hit the single-season century mark in points with the Flyers.

.“MVP….MVP….MVP,” fans chanted late in the second period after Giroux’s second goal of the game and 33rd of the season, The chants became louder after Giroux scored on a breakaway to complete his hat trick with 9:49 left in the third.“

It feels great. The fans really made me feel special and I’m pretty happy about it,” said Giroux, who finished the season with 19 goals and 44 points in the last 29 games.

Giroux joins Connor McDavid and Nikita Kucherov in the 100-point club for the 2018 season.
