Vancouver has traded defenseman Kevin Bieksa to Anaheim for a 2016 second round draft pick.
The 34-year-old Bieksa has one season left on his contract which dings the cap at $4.6M, however his actual salary is just $2.5M. In 136 games for the Canucks over the last two seasons, Bieksa has scored just eight goals and 38 points with 153 hits, 181 PIMs, and 232 hits. The trade not gives Vancouver about $8.2M in cap space with only a few slots to fill. While Anaheim has about $20.8M in cap space, with several slots to fill. The trade may also spell the end of Francois Beauchemin’s second stint in Anaheim.
The HockeyFanLand Insight:
The team I cheer for on a nightly basis, The Edmonton Oilers, as hockey fans know, are in desperate need of veteran defenseman. Francois Beauchemin fit the bill. Mike Green will be alright too.
